We are excited to showcase 6th-12th grade musicians from the United States and Canada in the 2021 Athena Honor Ensemble. We congratulate all young ladies accepted to this prestigious event and thank all directors who submitted nominations. The AHE is proudly supported by the Conn-Selmer Division of Education.

The ATHENA HONOR ENSEMBLE (AHE) will showcase promising young female musicians from around the globe. Directors must nominate students for the event.

DIRECTORS: NOMINATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED for the 2021 HONOR ENSEMBLE.

ABOUT

This unique virtual event will include clinics and workshops with our renowned Athena faculty and will provide supplementary music and leadership opportunities for our promising young women. Selected musicians will:

  • Create a final, recorded performance to be premiered online this spring
  • Participate in master classes and empowerment sessions with trusted Athena Music and Leadership faculty
  • Develop leadership skills through mentoring opportunities and social-emotional learning activities
  • Receive an exclusive Athena Honor Ensemble polo shirt!

ELIGIBILITY

Middle and high school-aged girls in grades 6-12 are eligible to be nominated. We understand that, due to circumstances beyond your control, deserving young ladies may not be currently enrolled in class. We trust the directors to nominate qualified students regardless of class enrollment status.


Instrumentation: Viola, Violin, Cello, Bass, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Bassoon, Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Percussion.

HOW TO APPLY

Band and Orchestra Directors may nominate up to 20 outstanding young ladies for the Athena Honor Ensemble. 


The deadline for nominations is December 20, 2020 at 11:59pm. Students will be notified of their acceptance by January 1, 2021.  UPDATE: NOMINATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED.

ACCEPTED MUSICIAN INFORMATION

2021 TIMELINE:

  • On or before January 1st - Acceptance Notification
  • January 11th - Registration/Participation Fee Deadline
  • February 7th - Live Session #1
  • February 14th - Live Session #2
  • February 21st - Live Session #3 (Recording Due)
  • February 28th - Live Session #4
  • March 2021 (Date TBD) - Online Video Premiere of the Athena Honor Ensemble!


All Live Sessions are at 7pm - 8:30pm ET. Although live participation is expected, we understand that a musician may need to miss a session due to extreme circumstances. A participant unable to logon for a live session is expected to view the session (link will be sent) and submit recordings, as needed. 


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Registration fee is $89. Forms and fee must be submitted online by January 11, 2021 (includes instruction, final video production, exclusive polo shirt, shipping, and administrative costs).
  • Students receiving financial support from their school/district should notify the AHE faculty by emailing info@athenacamp.com.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Selected young ladies will need a computer or mobile device, webcam capabilities, and a quiet place to connect. Earphones are a plus, but are not required for the live sessions. Earphones will be needed for the recording. Once accepted, we will notify you via email with instructions on how to access sessions and required materials.
